Veterans Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, verse # 1

Out on the front lines, cold and alone,
young and innocent and far from home,
brave but frightened of what was to come,
Growing up fast,

Taught to use weapons, in survival trained,
faces from home recalled while marching in rain,
brave but frightened of what was to come,
Growing up fast,
Growing up fast.
Facing the enemy with no time for fear,
with gunshots and cannons, a few hidden tears,
some souls were lost, some courage was found,
still brave but frightened of what was to come,
Growing up fast,
Growing up fast.
For country, for family, you risked your life
for a future we enjoy today,
and, though you were then frightened of what was to come,
you fought through the fear
and helped pave the way,
fighting for freedom, our rights, and our homes,
out on the front line, so far from home,
and growing up fast.
Thank you for all of the sacrifices that you have made that have helped to make this country wonderful for all of us.
