Happy Birthday, verse #2 (to climb Everest)

Happy Birthday…

My birthday wish for you is this,
that you may someday have your wish,
to climb along the mountainside,
a kindly Sherpa as your guide,
as valley rock becomes mountains steep,
the crunch of snow beneath your feet,
and with each step you’ll make your way,
to the place where the flag shall wave,
you’ll stop at base to rest at night,
and warm your soul with food and rite,
and talk of expeditions past,
you’ll finally have your chance at last
to live the dream, to summit high,
the victory you seek to find,
for there beneath the mist awaits
the challenge Everest has made,
you’ll know each trial, you’ll face the tests
of cold and frostbite, gear and breath,
and in the noonday warmth of sun,
you’ll wave the flag, challenge won.
