Three O'clock Angels
Three o’clock angels…
Three o’clock angels,
whiskey and wine,
comforting hearts until closing time,
bottles on tables,
bartenders wiping the bar,
peeling off labels, sweeping up hearts,
as lost souls tell stories
of heartbroken homes,
of hearts searching for love and love that’s gone wrong,
as three o’clock angels
and whiskey and wine,
try to heal broken hearts until closing time,
but three o’clock angels, wiser ghosts from the past,
look past the torn labels and through broken glass,
and point to reflections,
the lost yesterdays,
when whiskey and wine didn’t cloud memories,
and three o’clock angels
recall better days
when this bottle wasn’t leading the way,
and three o’clock angels will show us the clues
and the key is the wisdom from facing the truth
but for now three o’clock angels
and whiskey and wine,
watch over this heart until closing time,
no one could have told me
that I’d end up here
trying to drown memories in whiskey and beer,
though three o’clock angels try to show me the way,
it’s still hard to admit the mistakes that I’ve made,
but when the bartender says
it’s time to go home
three o’clock angels remind me why I’m going alone,
and three o’clock angels
recall better days
when this bottle wasn’t leading the way,
and three o’clock angels will show us the clues
and the key is the wisdom from facing the truth
but for now three o’clock angels
and whiskey and wine,
watch over this heart until closing time.
